Local libraries can provide residents with information through library materials and support community development activities of residents through new library services. These libraries have a role as a hub of community development to connect residents and local government. This report examines the results of a survey of five libraries that served their communities through various approaches. The tasks of these libraries as a hub of community development could be divided into four categories: library operation, participation of local residents in this operation, increase of users, and new library services. We also discuss the progressive approaches of the libraries in each of these categories.
