In this research, is focused the community development as"the homevillage of a folk tale"of City of Tono, Iwate prefecture and analyzed thecitizens'oral activities of folk tale from the viewpoint of succession oftraditional culture, and development of community learning.The oral tradition of the folk tale of Tono is connected also with activitiesof the various local circles of folk tale in the contemporary society. In thecase of Yamagata Prefecture, the conservation of the local traditionalcultures, such as a folk tale and a traditional drum, is promoted ascommunity learning movement in all cities, towns and villages in theprefecture. Furthermore, in the face of an East Japan great earthquake, thenarrator group of the folk tale in a stricken area has extended the activitywhich shares memory of an area with a disaster victim.In this paper, I try to position oral activities of folk tale as a practice ofcooperative community learning such as small circle movement in 1950s, andpeoples'writing activities of a personal history in 1970s, etc., whichcontribute to identity formation of a community through expressiveactivities. This paper is yet a preliminary consideration, and I will continueto analyze the life-story of narrators of folk tale and consider the role ofthem for construction of a common interesting community.
