江戸東京のまち「外濠」 : 復元的考察から読み解く近代の空間・生活とその歴史性

The Sotobori in Tokyo is　artificial trench built for the defense of Edo Castle. With the shift to modern urban in Tokyo had been lost a number of heritages, though the Sotobori of interval leading to Iidabashi from Ichigaya has been inherited until now. Fortunately it has been preserved in its condition following the shift. Abundant water and green space and the magnificent panorama are valuable assets that can not be lacked in high-density central Tokyo. The Sotobori is now designated as historical sites in Tokyo. Around Chiyoda ward in Tokyo, the landscape is positioned as a cultural and historical heritage, also movement to save it aggressively is popular. Its aim is trying to preserve the scenery by keeping the morphology and the vegetation at the time of the Edo. Indeed, a series of apartment and skyscraper construction around the Sotobori in recent years, there is the background that the scenic beauty is going to be lost, but such a movement to conserve the scenery is a valid and feasible politics. But the inherent "value" of the Sotobori is not intended to be captured only the superficial views originally. When I walk around the Sotobori, there is inherited in the form of block structure that was built during the Edo Period, I'm surprised that it is kept in a really comfortable space. In addition, the space at the Chiyoda side and Shinjuku side is very different across the Sotobori, and it is understood that the nature the Sotobori had as a boundary in urban space is perfectly established even today. In other words, the "value" can be found to be seen as "community" that the surrounding environment integrated with. Now, it is valid to point out the historical uniqueness and originality in order that the Sotobori is rated as "community". In particular, span from the early Meiji period until the Great Kanto Earthquake is important. Because, many of "community" at the Sotobori was a land of warrior, but it is this time to revitalize as the modern space and to see the first completion. "Community" of the today Sotobori is formed by force of the basis for the space at this time. Moreover, it must be considered the relationship with Edo Period that "community" of the modern Sotobori is heavily influenced by. The "community" will be understood more clearly by learning what it inherit or omit from Edo. But now, the modern Sotobori is not really taken notice as "community". Axis of the rating is converged into a simple view of the Sotobori as the remains of Edo Period. To create multifaceted value of the Sotobori,it is necessary to figure out "community" of the modern Sotobori while gazing into relationship with Edo and to point out the historical uniqueness and originality. This is the important view for rebirth as "community" of the Sotobori and the greatest significance of this research.
