Since the Department of the Career Design was established in April 2003, the department has had its own Career Adviser. The Career Adviser is a professional who counsels students in the formation of their careers. The Career Adviser’s position stands between the professors and the college administrative staffs and is one of the pillars that supports students. Currently, there are four members with working experience. It has been three and a half years since the department’s opening, and the student body now consists of all classes from first-year to fourth-year. Now is a good time to reflect on the performance of the Career Adviser from April 2005 until September 2006, and locate the challenges as well as the position’s future direction. The main duty of the Career Adviser is to provide student support services. Currently, the seven activities ―including “individual consulting,” “registration consultation,” “support to the introductory seminar camp,” “job hunting assistance,” “publication－of Career News,” “conducting various seminars,” and “fostering and assisting voluntary student activities”― are the main pillars for the year-round services. Furthermore, the Career Adviser provides the service of self management. The role of the Career Adviser falls into two areas. One area is to help foster and promote the abilities in herent in students. The majority of the services handled by the Career Adviser fall into this category. These services constitute the fundamental role of the Career Adviser and place counseling at the center of all services. The second area is that the Career Adviser help in the formation of a career design mentality. In the department, classes related to career counseling will be mandatory for new enrollees from April 2007. Accordingly, The Career Adviser will assist professors and take a part in services that facilitate group work and role-playing. As described above, the duties of Career Adviser are continuing to develop as a professional in the area of education.
