This article is a continuation of the article "Scripts and Thinking in Ancient Mesopotamia". published in Bulletin of the Faculty of Lifelong and Career Studies,vol.3,2006. In Ancient Mesopotamia,where the cuneiform script was born and used for roughly three thousand years,scribes employed both phonograms and ideograms during the same period according to tradition and certain circumstances.The fact that a kind of double system of writhing was current for a long time caused many complications,but certain scholars have taken advantage of the duality in order to offer particular explications. We actualy find several numbers used with special symbolic values. This paper will attempt to collect a certain number of materials concernih this phenomenon. These are: ―symbolic numbers attributed to great godss ―Six/seven days and six/seven nights referred to in the Gilgames Epic as well as in the Atra-hasis Epic and the Nergal and Ereskigal. ―Seven gods or the like in Mesopotamian religious tradition ―50 names of Marduk in the Enuma Elis Epic(revised) ―Other numbers found in the Enuma Elis Epic ―Several episodes found in Assyrian royal inscriptions (containing number symbolism) These examples tell us that numbers could have substance and certain usefulness in the minds of the people of Ancient Mesopotamia.
